The ALPHA family of broadband seismometers is at the core of Gaiacode's geophysical instrumentation program. Based on a newly designed sensor, whose response to ground motion is governed by a double-nested feedback loop, the ALPHA seismometers are a versatile, low-noise family of seismic instruments. Being offered in various different versions ALPHAs can be used for all aspects of seismic measurements, from recording local and regional earthquakes to low frequency teleseismic studies.
ALPHA Surface/Vault version
The standard product of the ALPHA family is a low-noise seismometer designed to be deployed in vaults or shallow surface installations. Packaged in a rugged stainless steel vessel its three components are oriented in the classical orthogonal configuration, pointing into the three cardinal directions.
ALPHA Posthole Seismometer
The ALPHA Posthole Seismometer is designed to be buried under the most severe conditions. Its waterproof stainless construction with a special high pressure water tight connector allows installations in postholes or shallow boreholes down to 100 m depth.
ALPHA Light Seismometer
This ALPHA Light is a robust, lighter weight version of the standard surface/vault ALPHA seismometer. The weight reduction of roughly 30 percent is achieved by packaging this seismometer into a vessel made of anodized aluminium.
Digital ALPHA Seismometer
This digital version of the ALPHA family is essentially a stardard three-component ALPHA surface/vault instrument which is equipped with an internal 24-bit TAU digitzer. This integrated assembly gives the seismometer a true digital output.
ALPHA Borehole Seismometer
This borehole seismometer contains the three ALPHA sensors stacked on top of each other. Adding three SIGMA accelerometer sensors to the package makes this rugged instrument a cost effective multifunction seismic observatory with a dynamic amplitude range exceeding 200 dB.
